The Cancer Walk at Road America

The Sargento Family has joined the fight to end cancer.  The Cancer Walk at Road America—a historic 14-turn course for open-wheel and stock car racing.  Sargento employee Karen Merlau is a breast cancer survivor and has been diligently raising funds for the American Cancer Society the past several years.  She was diagnosed in 2006.  Karen is a team captain for the Cancer Walk and even coordinated a company-wide bake sale for the cause.

“I’m so grateful to have so much support from my colleagues at Sargento.  The bake sale alone raised $1,320.  That’s in addition to the pledges I’ve been collecting.”

In 2016, Karen and her team raised $5,780 for the Cancer Walk at Road America and she’s confident this year will be even more once the final tally comes in around Thanksgiving.

“Cancer touches so many lives and being a survivor, I know the struggle and pain,” said Karen.  “But now, thanks to medical research and education, funded by the American Cancer Society, there is life after cancer.  My diagnosis feels like ancient history.”
